Rudolf Duala Manga Bell - A German Story
SUMMARY
This animated piece explores the life and legacy of Rudolf Duala Manga Bell (1873–1914), a Cameroonian king and anti-colonial figure who resisted German occupation. The film blends historical narrative with expressive, stylized visuals to how Germany came to colonize Cameroon in the late 1800’s. My role focused on bringing animation to parts of the film that requires a deep metaphor using motion, pacing, and visual symbolism.
Depiction of the 1884 Berlin Conference where European powers negotiated dividing Africa to colonize.
Rudolf Duala Manga Bell (1873-1914)
Germany had several colonies established in Africa from the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s.
The film was projected onto 2 16:9 screens.
The film draws the audience in with fine cinematography and strong artistic metaphors.
Was 1 of 3 animators that have worked on this project.
